Golden retriever photography in St. Louis draws a lot of interest. Honestly, pet photography wouldn’t be where it is today without goldens, in my humble opinion. They are the perfect mix of friendly, sneaky and mischievous.
They were born to be in front of a camera.
Many of these beautiful golden retriever photos come from a variety of parks in St. Louis and our new location in Northwest Arkansas. Gracie was dubious at best when her niece Ellie made her debut in 2023. After almost a year they have grown into great friends. Our favorite shot is the one where it looks like they are in a fight to the death.
Or not. Rest assured, they are both healthy and happy and great ambassadors for golden retriever photography in St. Louis.

We love, love, love photographing goldens (it probably doesn’t hurt that we have had six over the years).
The golden retriever’s dense, lustrous coat–whether light golden, deep red or white–provides a stunning contrast against various outdoor backdrops. Our favorite spot to photograph goldens is in the woods or parks. Their breeding as a hunting dog really provides many photographic opportunities in a forest-like setting. We have also had great luck with them retrieving balls and toys… no surprise there. We have great camera equipment–the Nikon Z9–that can catch fast action, as you can see below.
The other approach we like is with close-ups. Aren’t these dogs just downright beautiful? Their expressive face, characterized by serious eyes and a joyous smile, makes them incredibly photogenic. You won’t see any unhappy goldens in the shots below.
Capturing the essence of this beautiful dog involves understanding its playful and loyal nature. This leads to many opportunities for both staged portraits and spontaneous, candid moments.
