Our standard poodle photos don’t tell the full story of this amazing breed.
In its overview of the standard poodle, The American Kennel Club writes that the poodle “stands proudly among dogdom’s true aristocrats.”
That pretty much says it all.
Our friends below, Gunner and Sergeant, were a joy to photograph. However, they gave us a scare. Driving back from the photo shoot, we stopped at a friend’s home and mistakenly opened the rear hatch. Before we had a foot on the ground the boys were gone.
Calling these dogs athletic is an understatement. They were gone.
After 20 minutes of prowling the neighborhood their owner Eileen suggested head back to the friend’s house. She guessed (hoped) they would go back. And go back they did. They were both sitting quietly waiting on us to return… in a driving rain storm.
AKC calls standard poodle ‘wickedly smart’
Here’s what the American Kennel Club says about the standard poodle:
“The Poodle is an elegant athlete and companion for all reasons and seasons. Poodles come in three size varieties: standards, miniatures and toys. All three varieties have the same build and proportions. At dog shows, Poodles are typically in the elaborate Continental clip. However, most pet owners prefer the simpler Sporting clip where the coat is shorn to show off the smoothly muscled body.
“Poodles are eager, athletic and wickedly smart dogs of remarkable versatility. The standard, with his greater size and strength, is the best all-around athlete of the family.”
