We don’t try to be all things to all people.

Long before we started photographing pets, we spent years photographing wildlife, birds and outdoor sports. Those experiences taught us patience, timing and how to work with subjects that don’t always follow directions.

We also believe the outdoors simply creates better photographs. Dogs get to be dogs. Kids are energized. Families relax.

Why do you prefer outdoor sessions instead of a studio?

Because people and pets behave differently outdoors.

A studio offers control, and there’s certainly a place for that style of photography. Our style is different. We want room for your dog to explore, your children to play and your family to simply spend time together.

Natural light, open spaces and familiar surroundings help everyone relax. Instead of trying to force a moment, we let it develop naturally.

Ironically, when people stop trying to create the perfect photograph, that’s often when it happens. The unexpected suddenly becomes the photo of the day.

What if my dog won’t cooperate during the session?

Then we’ll photograph your dog.

Seriously, most owners worry about this, but very few dogs behave exactly the way their families expect once they arrive. That’s perfectly normal.

We work with energetic puppies, stubborn dogs, shy rescues and older dogs that simply want to rest. We adjust the pace to fit your pet and never force a situation that makes them uncomfortable.

In fact, some of our favorite photographs have come from moments that weren’t planned at all. A dog wandering off to investigate something interesting often creates a much better image than sitting perfectly still.

Can you photograph my whole family and our pet together?

Absolutely. In fact, many of our favorite sessions include everyone.

Our approach isn’t to line everyone up and hope for one perfect smile. We like to capture interactions—walking together, playing, laughing and simply enjoying time with your pet.

Don’t worry if your kids are active or your dog has other ideas about the day’s schedule. Outdoor sessions give us the flexibility to adapt, and sometimes the little moments between the posed shots become the images families treasure most.

How do you capture a pet’s personality?

Every animal has its own personality, and our goal is to let that come through naturally.

One of the things we love most about Northwest Arkansas is the variety of beautiful outdoor locations.

Depending on your vision, we may suggest places like Beaver Lake, the Crystal Bridges trails, Lake Atalanta, Devil’s Den State Park or one of the many scenic parks and greenways throughout Benton and Washington counties.

Sometimes, though, the best location is your own backyard, your family farm or a favorite place where your pet already feels comfortable. The right location is the one that helps tell your story.

Yes, the final 10 photos you select. These can be downloaded from our online gallery. Many photographers also provide a print release to allow you to share them on social media. Be sure to ask if you’ll receive rights for digital images and clarify how they will be delivered.

Are There Extra Costs?

There can be. For example, the fees charged by most professional dog photographers in Northwest Arkansas covers their time in coordinating, shooting, editing and delivering your photos in an electronic format. However, there can be situations where there may be additional charges. For example, we charge mileage fees for photo shoots outside of Benton County. Additional fees can also occur if there are unusually difficult editing requests by the client. Clarify extra costs and fees up front. When Should I Do an End-of-Life Photo Session With My Pet?

There’s no right or wrong answer to this. The “when” of this decision is based on the dog’s situation and condition. On the other hand, the “what” we do is fluid. Most importantly, we recommend doing what the dog will enjoy. For example, it is simply resting on the couch in your arms or on a short walk. There are no rules.

What are Some Photography Tips for Capturing Your Pet With Your Camera?

There is a lot to it, but here are the high points:

• Get Down to Their Level. This is important. This helps create more engaging, intimate shots, as it reflects their perspective. Kneel or lie down to get eye-level with your pet rather than taking the photo from above. One of the best purchases we have made is a high quality pair of knee pads.
• Use Natural Light. Whenever possible, opt for natural light. Pets look best when they are in soft, even light. Also, avoid harsh midday sun or artificial lighting when possible. Try shooting near windows or outdoors during the “golden hour” (early morning or late afternoon) for beautiful, flattering lighting. • Focus on the Eyes. As with people, the eyes are the focal point in pet portraits. Make sure your camera is focused on your pet’s eyes for a sharp, clear image. This helps convey emotion and adds depth to the photo.
• Use Fast Shutter Speeds. Pets can be quick and unpredictable, especially in action shots. To prevent motion blur, use a fast shutter speed (at least 1/1000th of a second to be safe). This will help capture your pet’s movements crisply and clearly.

Do you offer pet photography for farm or ranch animals in NWA?
Yes! See our photos of wild horses and suri alpacas. The owner of the alpaca ranch found us online when she searched for horse photographers. Also note in the alpaca photos: the owners use a Great Pyrenees dog to guard the alpacas. Such a cool dog!

Do you offer photography for exotic pets like birds, rabbits or reptiles?

Of course! These milestone sessions can include fun props, cake smashes (pet-friendly, of course) and special themes.

How will I get my final images?
The best images from the photoshoot will be available for viewing in an online, password-protected gallery. You can choose your favorites. You can also order prints, digital files or custom artwork. Do I own the copyright to the photos?
No. As the photographer, we retain the copyright, but clients receive a personal-use license to print and share their images. Commercial usage requires separate licensing.

Can I use my pet’s photos for commercial purposes?
We typically don’t allow that, but there are exceptions. We are happy to discuss it with you.

What should I know about contracts and model releases?
Before the session, clients sign a photography services agreement that details our joint responsibilities and includes a model release that allows us to use images for portfolio and promotional purposes. The generic agreement is available for you to review in advance. A specific agreement will be provided for your project and must be signed in advance.
