Family and dog photographer in Maryland Heights, Missouri

This photo of a golden retriever prancing down a hillside covered in leaves is priceless.

Maryland Heights offers one of the best mixes of wide-open parkland and walkable trails in the S. Louis area. With places like Creve Coeur Lake Park, Pattonville Heights Park, and the nearby greenway system, it’s a beautiful place for relaxed outdoor pet and family photography.

These open spaces give dogs room to move and families room to breathe — which is exactly what makes photos feel natural instead of posed.

Our favorite dog-friendly photo spots in Maryland Heights

The photo of this family with three children came at the perfect time with fall colors

Maryland Heights, MO has many great spots for outdoor dog photography::

Creve Coeur Lake Memorial Park. This is the crown jewel of Maryland Heights. The lake, the trails, the boardwalk, and the giant open fields give us everything we need for a session with variety. Additionally, it’s especially great for active dogs or those who photograph well in open space. We just time things to avoid heavy traffic on weekends.

McKelvey Woods Trail. A quieter option for dogs who need space and calm. This connector trail is shaded and peaceful—perfect for dogs who love walking and sniffing without too many distractions. The woods give us a moody, natural look, especially in fall.

Vago Park. A great middle-ground location: open space, paved trails, and a quiet vibe. It’s easy to access, easy to park, and dogs tend to feel relaxed here. Great for more structured portrait-style sessions with clean backgrounds.

Notable parks close to Maryland Heights, MO

Creve Coeur Park Connector Trail (to Bridgeton). A lightly traveled, shaded connector trail that allows for some beautiful walking shots and soft light.

Faust Park (Chesterfield). Just southwest of Maryland Heights, this historic park includes wooded trails, open lawns, and rustic structures. Worth the drive.

Sniffspot Private Parks (Private Rentals). Sniffspot in Maryland Heights offers private, fully fenced yards for rent by the hour. These spaces provide safe, off-leash play without the park crowds.

Gracie’s Corner: Lots of options for a dog with an attitude

By Gracie Ann Gurley, Brand Ambassador and Chief Goose Negotiator (and cool as a cucumber)

Maryland Heights has a little bit of everything for dogs looking for trouble. Count me out of that group!.

  • Creve Coeur Lake is where I go to feel majestic. Seriously, wind in the fur, paws in the grass, reflection in the water—someone get me a slow-motion camera. This place makes me feel like I should be in a movie.
  • McKelvey Woods is my secret trail. Not too many people, lots of good ground smells, and soft dirt underfoot. I like a peaceful walk. This place lets me think big thoughts (like, “Was that a rabbit or just wishful sniffing?”).
  • Vago Park has my approval for serious posing. It’s clean, quiet, and has that “I’m a professional” vibe. You want crisp, classic portraits? This is where I stand still for a minute and let the camera do its thing.

What do you think of my cool cowlick (see at top of my head)?

Gracie: This isn’t my only hangout. All of west county rocks

Don’t get me wrong—I love this place. But if your paws land in a different west county city, I’ve probably been there. too. These are all solid choices for a tail-wagging, photo-ready adventure: Ballwin, Chesterfield, Clarkson Valley, Creve Coeur, Des Peres, Ellisville, Eureka, Kirkwood, Manchester, Town & Country, and Wildwood.

We know this area inside and out.

Frequently Asked Questions-FAQs (Maryland Heights)

Do you only photograph in Maryland Heights?
No. We provide pet photography sessions throughout the St. Louis area (MO and IL) and St. Charles County. We are happy to accommodate your preferred setting.

What if my dog can’t be off-leash during the session?
Safety for your best friend is our top priority. It’s common for most public parks to require your beloved pets to be on-leash. Here’s great news: our sophisticated photo editing software can, in most cases, remove leashes and collars. Easy peasy.

Can we do the session at our home in Maryland Heights?
Yes. It is especially beneficial for dogs who are a little shy or do best in familiar surroundings.

Can we include family members in the shoot?
Of course. Be aware some photographers charge more to add family members and pets. But we don’t. Learn more about our Family and Pet Portrait Package.

Is your golden retriever Gracie really an employee?

Great question. Yes! Wheels don’t turn at Outdoor Pet Photography Services without Gracie having a paw on it. Don’t tell anyone but it’s possible we have skirted a few child labor laws (Gracie just turned four!). We have our legal department running this down.

These are some of our favorite photographs. Enjoy!
