Top dog-friendly photo spots in St. Charles

St. Charles, MO has many excellent locations for outdoor pet photography:
Blanchette Park. A classic city park with open lawns, mature trees, and a quiet neighborhood feel. It’s great for relaxed sessions where your dog can feel at ease—and where we can take advantage of awesome natural light with minimal distractions.
Frontier Park (Historic Downtown St. Charles). Right along the Missouri River, this spot gives us a mix of wide-open space and old-world charm. Dogs love the river breeze, and the historic architecture nearby adds visual variety. This one works especially well for dogs that are leash-trained and comfortable with light foot traffic.
Wapelhorst Park. A little more spacious and a little less traveled than the downtown parks. It has open fields, paved walking trails, and some nice texture and color changes through the seasons. A good choice for action photos or dogs who need room to move.
Notable parks near St. Charles, MO
Louis H. Bangert Memorial Wildlife Area (near Earth City). Great for dogs who like a real “in the woods” vibe. It is shaded, rustic, and has less foot traffic than more central parks.
Fox Hill Park (St. Peters). A quick drive west of St. Charles, this park has a loop trail and some open lawn areas. It’s calm, family-friendly, and excellent for structured portrait sessions.
Sniffspot Parks (Private Rentals). Sniffspot in St. Charles offers private, fully fenced yards for rent by the hour. These spaces provide safe, off-leash play without the park crowds.

Gracie’s Corner: St. Charles is highly sniffable
By Gracie Ann Gurley, Brand Ambassador, Chief Stick Evaluator and longtime sidewalk sniffer (and cool as a cucumber)
It is tough to list only three cool places in St. Charles, but I tried:
- Blanchette Park smells like Sunday morning. It’s calm, shady, and has just the right kind of grass for flopping down dramatically after a walk. Also, squirrels here seem slightly less alert. I like those odds.
- Frontier Park is where I feel like a historic figure. The river breeze, the cobblestones, the benches—this is where I do my classic “serious stare into the distance” pose. It makes me look like I’ve lived through something. (I haven’t.)
- Wapelhorst Park gives me space to launch. Sometimes I just need to run full speed and make weird noises. This is where that happens. You want an action shot of a golden retriever airborne? This is your place.
What do you think of my uber-cool cowlick (see at top of my head)?
Gracie: St. Charles is not my only hangout
Let’s be clear, I love St. Charles. But if you’re thinking about other locations–say in west county–then I’ve got the ticket for you. I’ve put together detailed guides for each city: Ballwin, Chesterfield, Clarkson Valley, Creve Coeur, Des Peres, Ellisville, Eureka, Kirkwood, Manchester, Maryland Heights, Town & Country, and Wildwood.
I love them all!
And don’t forget to call my daddy to talk about photographing your best friend. Daddy is my best friend!
Frequently Asked Questions-FAQs (St. Charles, MO)

Do you only photograph in St. Charles?
No. We photograph all over the greater St. Louis area. However, St. Charles has a nice mix of green space and downtown personality that makes it a great choice. We’re happy to meet you in St. Charles or another nearby location depending on your needs.
What if my dog can’t be off-leash during the session?
Safety for your best friend is our top priority. It’s common for most public parks to require your beloved pets to be on-leash. Here’s great news: our sophisticated photo editing software can, in most cases, remove leashes and collars. Easy peasy.
Can we do the session at our home in St. Charles?
Yes. It is especially beneficial for dogs who are a little shy or do best in familiar surroundings.
Can we include family members in the shoot?
Of course. Be aware some photographers charge more to add family members and additional pets. But we don’t. Learn more about our Family and Pet Portrait Package.
Is your golden retriever Gracie really an employee?
Great question. Yes! Wheels don’t turn at Outdoor Pet Photography Services without Gracie having a paw on it. Don’t tell anyone but it’s possible we have skirted a few child labor laws (Gracie just turned four!). We have our legal department running this down.
